Mission
The mission of the El Cajon CDC is to ensure the economic vitality of Downtown El Cajon. Community members are encouraged to participate through meaningful volunteer service ranging from general office assistance to chairing a committee or serving on the Board of Directors. Last year, over 350 volunteers donated 2,200 hours to bettering Downtown El Cajon- and we couldn’t have done it without them! Read on to learn more about volunteering with the El Cajon CDC.

Volunteer Opportunities
Our volunteers represent Downtown El Cajon, from youth groups to business owners. In order to create a satisfying volunteer experience, we take a skills-based approach when placing volunteers. We recognize that everyone has something to give and encourage anyone interested in serving the community to join us at a Volunteer Orientation to learn more about our programs.
Volunteers generally fit into one of three categories: Administrative, Event, or Committee.
- Administrative volunteers are accepted year-round and are called upon on an as-needed basis. Duties include answering phones, filing, making phone calls to update records, preparing binders/packets and assisting with special projects. Previous experience is not required, but volunteers must be available during office hours (Monday - Friday 8:30am – 5:00 pm). Attendance at a Volunteer Orientation, held on the First Friday of each month, is required before service begins. Please contact Chapin Cole, Resource Development Associate, at (619) 401-8858 for time and location.
- Event volunteers work at Alley Cat Art Walk, A Toast to Music, Cajon Classic Cruise, and/or Concerts on the Green assisting with set up/tear down, raffle sales, distribution of flyers or other event-related activities as directed. Volunteer positions for the 2008 season have been filled, but keep informed by reading our weekly e-newsletter (click here to sign up) for the latest openings and updates! Volunteers of all ages may also sign up for monthly neighborhood clean ups through our Lend A Hand program. Saturday Morning Clean ups take place in Downtown El Cajon neighborhoods on the last Saturday of every month from 9:00 – 11:00 am. Click here to find the next location or contact Christina Burke, Community Development Coordinator, at (619) 401-8858 to RSVP.
- Committee volunteers help steer our programs by attending monthly meetings and using their expertise to drive the revitalization of Downtown El Cajon. If you have experience and the desire to help Downtown El Cajon prosper, serving on a committee could be a great fit for you! Volunteers must attend a Volunteer Orientation, held on the First Friday of each month, before joining a committee. Please contact Chapin Cole, Resource Development Associate, at (619) 401-8858 for time and location.
Intern Program
We're so happy to have Charlotte Davis, Grossmont High School student, as our new Marketing Intern. Charlotte will be working on marketing for the 4th Annual East County Homeownership Fair, First Fridays, and helping with the Promotion department at El Cajon CDC. Charlotte says what interested her in the El Cajon CDC is "the extensive amount of work they do in the community that covers so many fields." Welcome, Charlotte!

Are you an expert in your field with an interest in revitalizing Downtown El Cajon? Join one of our leadership committees!
